Disposal of Implantable Devices
Implant devices that have been exposed to biological materials should be treated and disposed of in the same manner as other electronic devices that have come into contact with biomaterials. These devices also contain batteries, which may require special handling during disposal.
Recommended Disposal Procedure
Prior to removal from the laboratory and disposal, we recommend the following procedure
1. Perform the cleaning and decontamination procedure outlined in the Cleaning and Decontaminating Devices for Exchange/Return to DSI or for Disposal
2. Dispose of the device according to your organization's procedures for electronic devices that have been exposed to biological materials.
Since the devices contain batteries and electronic components, disposal regulations may vary depending on your location. Follow all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, as well as your organization's environmental health and safety requirements, for battery and electronic waste disposal.
Disclaimer
Disposal requirements for electronic devices and batteries vary by region. It is the responsibility of the facility to ensure compliance with all local regulations and disposal guidelines.
