Temperature Comparison (IP vs SQ)
There is a difference in the temperature read by a Telemetry transmitter dependent on where the device is surgically implanted. Transmitters implanted Subcutaneously (SQ) will measure a slightly lower body temperature than transmitters implanted Intraperitoneal (IP). IP placement positions the transmitter body in the abdomen exposing it to a more direct core body temperature.
The following figures provide examples where two transmitters placed in the same animal, one IP, and one SQ. This demonstrates what the potential difference could be based on transmitter placement.
SQ vs. IP placement in a rat, 1 hour
SQ vs. IP placement in a rat, 1 hour
SQ vs. IP placement in a rat, 24 hours
SQ vs. IP placement in a mouse, 24 hours
