Recommendations for Moving Ponemah v5.x and v6.x Data Files for Remote Analysis
In many cases, it is helpful to copy data to a separate computer for analysis. This article will describe details on the files needed for Ponemah to load and analyze data. For best performance, it is recommended to copy data to the local computer for analysis rather than load data from an external or network drive as that can drastically slow down the loading and analysis functions.
Ponemah v5.x
The following files are created per acquisition session, i.e. start and stop of acquisition.
File Name |
Description |
Required for Remote Analysis |
.RAW |
The .RAW file contains the sensor data collected during the acquisition session. |
Yes |
.RVW |
The . RVW file contains the analysis marks, events, and settings used in a Ponemah Review session. |
Yes |
.MP4 |
Video files were created when using Noldus Media Recorder to collect from video cameras during the acquisition session. |
Yes, if available |
.XML |
The video XML file contains the necessary metadata to link the video data with the subject sensor data within Ponemah. |
Yes, if available |
.xlsx |
The Excel output from an acquisition session or after saving a Derived Data from a Ponemah Review session. |
No |
.PRO |
The .PRO file is the initial protocol settings used during the acquisition. The same .PRO may be used for multiple acquisition sessions. |
Yes, if using NeuroScore for Analysis |
The default location for all files listed above: C:\Ponemah_Data\
To perform remote analysis of Ponemah 5.x data, copy the necessary files as indicated in the table above to the remote PC’s C:\Ponemah_Data\ folder.
Note: If you are a GLP lab using the Ponemah Study and Data Security modules, please refer to the Data Manager section of the Ponemah manual (MU00060_P3Plus.pdf).
Ponemah v6.x
The files listed in the table below are created and updated per acquisition and analysis session. These files are contained within a user-defined experiment folder as entered during the initial Experiment creation step.
The default location for all Experiment folders is: C:\Ponemah Data\
File Type |
Description |
.PnmExp
|
This is an SQLite database containing all setup information needed for the Experiment to be run, i.e. acquisitions to be performed and analysis to occur.
|
.PnmExpLog
|
This is an SQLite database containing the complete Experimental log. The log contains all information that defines the Experiment such as analysis settings, subject setup, and hardware configuration. The log also contains any hardware errors that are generated during the acquisition of data that can impact data.
|
.PnmMarks
|
This is an SQLite database generated per subject and contains all of the analysis validation marks, events, user notes, and bad data marks for each input sources channels.
The database will be updated with items referred to above for each acquisition session and may be updated during a Review session, over the range of data that is loaded, should those items be altered, i.e. data is reanalyzed and saved. |
.PnmWav
|
This is a binary file that contains all of the signal data for a particular subject. There can be multiple files generated for a subject.
A new file is generated every time the subject starts a new sampling collection or when it reaches a predefined size that is user settable in the application or when a predefined time is reached that is user settable in the application. |
.PnmResults |
This is an SQLite database that is generated per subject and contains all of the parameter values, data reduction values, and variability results.
The database will be updated with items referred to above for each acquisition session and may be updated during a Review session, over the range of data that is loaded, should those items be altered, i.e. data is reanalyzed and saved.
|
.MP4 |
Video files were created when using Noldus Media Recorder to collect from video cameras during the acquisition session. |
.XML |
The video XML file contains the necessary metadata to link the video data with the subject sensor data within Ponemah. |
To perform remote analysis of Ponemah 6.x data, the simplest method is to copy the entire Experiment folder to the remote PC’s C:\Ponemah Data\ folder. But, this may not be practical if dealing with a lot of data or reanalyzing the sensor data on the remote PC.
Considerations:
- If you only need the latest derived parameter (HR, Temp, etc.) data in Excel:
- Open Ponemah on the acquisition PC and open the desired experiment.
- Then select File | Export Data. Make the desired selections and click Export.
- Move the generated Excel file to the remote PC.
- If you want to load sensor data into Ponemah Review to look at subjects’ waveforms:
- Navigate to the experiment’s Experiment folder and sort on the Last Modified date header.
- Copy only the .PnmWav files (and .MP4/.XML if using video) for the subjects’ data you wish to review. This may include a file that was partially written to and previously copied. It’s ok to overwrite a .PnmWav file if prompted on the remote PC.
- If data WAS NOT reanalyzed on the remote PC:
Copy the .PnmMarks and PnmResults files to the remote PC and select yes to overwrite the existing files.
If data WAS reanalyzed and saved on the remote PC:
DO NOT move the .PnmMarks and PnmResults files to the remote PC. Once the .PnmWav files (and .MP4/.XML if using video) are moved, open the subjects; data that you added in Ponemah Review. The subjects’ waveforms should be available to graph, but you’ll notice the waveforms are not Marked and derived data is not in the Derived List Views. Simply reanalyzed the channels and Save the Mark Section from the Experiment Menu.
