Sleep Latency Calculations using NeuroScore
For Rodents :
The following definitions describe the available sleep latency calculations available in NeuroScore:
- SWS onset is the latency between the first scored epoch and the first SWS epoch
- Paradoxical onset is the latency between the first scored epoch and the first Paradoxical Sleep epoch
- Sleep onset = min (SWS onset , Paradoxical onset)
The following graph illustrates the SWS onset and the Paradoxical onset within NeuroScore:

NeuroScore Sleep Reports may be used to obtain these calculations. The example above would result in the following latencies:

For large animals :
- Sleep Onset: The time before the first entry into N1.
- Sleep Onset to N1: The time before the first entry into N1.
- Sleep Onset to N2: The time before the first entry into N2(No matter if the preceding segments contain any wake epochs).
- Sleep Onset to N3: The time before the first entry into N3(No matter if the preceding segments contain any wake epochs).
- Sleep Onset to REM: The time from first N1 epoch to first entry into REM sleep. (No matter if the preceding segments contain any wake epochs).
- Sleep Onset to Slow Wave: The time from first N1 epoch to first entry into N2. (No matter if the preceding segments contain any wake epochs).
The following graph illustrates these values:
- Sleep Onset to 10 minutes: The time before the first occurrence of a 10-minute continuous NREM sleep segment. (No matter if the preceding segments contain any sleep epochs)
- Wake Time After Sleep Onset: The total duration of all wake epochs from the onset of the first N1 to the onset of the last wake epoch. (If the end epoch of the segment is not a Wake or Active Wake epoch, it will calculate all the wake epochs, if the end epoch of the segment is a Wake or Active Wake epoch it will calculate all the wake epochs expect the end epoch.)
- Wake Time After Final Awakening: The penultimate wake epoch is defined as Final Awakening, and the last wake epoch is defined as Wake Time After Final Awakening. (If the end epoch of the segment is not a Wake or Active Wake epoch, it will not be calculated)
